As a doctor in a public hospital, Dr. Sean Clark was always aware that accessing medical services in a timely manner could be difficult. It was through personal experience that the difficulties really hit home.

“One evening I had to take my distressed seven-year-old daughter to the emergency department with a pain in her stomach. I was worried that she had appendicitis. The emergency doctor who saw her agreed, which meant she needed an operation” Dr. Clark recalls.

“We have private health insurance. This meant we had a choice of surgeon. But which surgeon did we want to operate on our daughter? I had only recently moved to the area, so was not familiar with the surgeons who worked locally. I wanted her to have her surgery somewhere close to where I lived, but not all surgeons operated in hospitals nearby.  I wanted someone who was good. There was pressure to decide., because the longer we waited, the greater the chance of complications.”

“I asked a friend to recommend someone. I am a doctor and the experience was hard for me. So what does someone who doesn’t have a medical background do? This is why I decided to start DocFinder.”

The website is a comprehensive online directory of general practitioners and medical specialists throughout Australia available at the touch of a button.  It makes finding a GP or specialist easy and people can locate doctors within specified postcodes and also list customer recommended doctors.

Dr Sean Clark, owner and founder of DocFinder, is a doctor in the public health care system and an advocate of making the best medical attention available to everyone when and where they need it.
