10 tips to look 10 years younger without botox
or cosmetic surgery

As we hit 40 most women begin to realise that their current look doesn’t work anymore.  How do you look sexy and chic without looking like your daughter, or old and frumpy and looking like your mother?

The key is not to show too much flesh as it tends to make you look desperate but to wear clothes that hug in all the right places and skim over the lumpy bits.  Even if you’re 45 and one of the lucky ones whose clothes still fit, do they still suit your face.

Personal Style

Discover your own signature style and tweak it as you age.

Remember that style icons never deviate from their look; they look fabulous at any age, Helen Mirren, Catherine Denevue and Audrey Hepburn and so can you.

For all things chic, stick to the classics with a twist, something that makes a statement about who you are.  Follow what’s in fashion and adapt those trends to suit your individual style.  It’s all about YOU.

Colour

As you age your skin, hair and eyes become paler, your face becomes lined and dark circles appear under the eyes so black becomes harder to wear.  As your natural colouring changes, adjust the colours you wear to look more alive.

Colour can impact your appearance by making you look healthy, youthful and full of energy while the wrong colours can leave you looking tired, older or ill.

Wearing a universal colour like purple or emerald turquoise can instantly drop years off your age.  Learn more about colour at www.definingstyle.com.au/ColourReinvention

Clothes

Wear classic lines that are right for your body shape.

You can’t beat well cut jeans, classic shirts or a stylish pair of black pants.  A good quality jacket will last season after season and is much better than several badly made ones.

Accept the fact that clothes may need to be altered to look great.  No-one has the ideal figure and altering your clothes changes you from looking ok to looking fab.

Avoid pants that are too short and skirts too long as these can make you look dumpy.

Avoid the stereotypes of looking too old with shapeless clothes, small floral prints, elastic waists and shirts closed up at the neck.

Accessories

Add stylish accessories to update your look and add interest to your outfit.  Mix modern accessories with your classic staple pieces.

Hair

Look instantly younger with long hair cut shorter as it rejuvenates your face, carries more bounce and looks healthier.

Change your hairstyle every few years to look current and make sure the style flatters your face shape

Suit your hair’s colour to your own personal colouring.  If your original hair colour was very dark, go for a lighter shade.  If fair, add warmth to your hair with gold, caramel or tan.

Makeup

Always wear makeup but remember less is more.

Use a foundation with warmth, dab on some blush, and wear a natural brow colour and a lipstick that flatters your colouring.

Avoid very frosted or lolly shade lipsticks, shiny eye shadows, and black mascara or eyeliner as these will make you look older.

Glasses

Update your glasses every two years to look current and more modern.

To lift and rejuvenate your face select styles that encourages attention upwards and outwards, eg. a focal point like a gold clasp at the upper, outer edge of the frame.

Rimless styles open up your face.

If you wear glasses don’t wear long dangling earrings, they accentuate your glasses.

Shoes

Shoes can make or break your outfit, so choose quality leather and ensure they are clean and not scuffed.

Round toed ballet shoes instantly age you making you look frumpy and mumsy.

Movement

Walk with pace and purpose to appear youthful, vital and enthusiastic.

You

Minimise your liabilities and show off your assets, bouncy hair, and a twinkle in your eye, a smile, a sparkling personality and perfect poise.

Walk tall and be proud to be you, it’s all about your attitude and how you look and feel.
